La Poel Resort History
Lake Crescent, Washington

This scene, photographed by 1942, shows the highway by the entrance to La Poel Resort, located along the
south shore of Lake Crescent. The building shown had the store, dining room, and service station at La Poel
Resort. The original half of the building, with the covered front porch, was previously known as
“Mid-Way Lunch.”

This scene of La Poel Resort is a view out toward the entrace of the resort. La Poel Resort was located on
the west side of what is now the La Poel picnic and day use area, which at that time was operated as a
public campground. In the late 1930s, La Poel Resort was owned and operated by Ed Brooks. At that time,
the resort included 11 cabins, a store, a dining room, a tap room, and a service station. The La Poel Resort
no longer exists.

The building shown in the foreground of this scene is the same building that is shown on the left side of the
previous scene. The only thing that remains from this building today is a moss covered concrete foundation
from the exterior fireplace chimney.

This scene, photographed by 1942, shows in the foreground the same building previously noted above and
also shown behind the pickup truck in the following photograph.

The license plate on the truck shown in this photograph indicates that this scene of La Poel Resort was
photographed in 1947. The four electrical wires seen hanging across the road in this photograph indicate
that at least some of the cabins had electricity. The lakeshore is along the right side of the road. The back
two cabins are the same back two cabins shown in the photograph below.

This scene of La Poel Resort is a view down toward the end of the road at the edge of the lake. A small
dock is visible between the trees near the center of the photograph.

This scene shows the interior of the dining room that was inside the building shown at the top of this page.
The dining room had a nice view out over the lake.
